Frequently asked questions
Q. Do I need a license for JetBrains Toolbox App?
A. No. The application is free of charge.
Q. What if I already have some JetBrains tools installed?
A. In most cases JetBrains Toolbox App can detect these IDEs and work with them, without certain features. However, if you decide to stay with JetBrains Toolbox App, we'd recommend to uninstall these previously installed tools and then install them again using Toolbox.
Q. Will it respect my settings on install or upgrade?
A. Yes. It will.
Q. Where are the IDEs located on my hard drive?
A. Locations depend on the operating system:
OS X: ~/Library/Application Support/JetBrains/Toolbox/apps
Q. I used to tune some JVM options for IntelliJ IDEA launcher. Does Toolbox app provide a way to edit IDE configs?
A. It does not at the moment. You need to configure JVM options manually. However, we're working on this feature and it will be available soon.
Q. Where are applications downloaded from?
A. All downloads are verified to come from downloads.jetbrains.com and https is used in all communication.
Q. What data does the Chrome Extension use?
A. The extension can only access the current page your visiting and works exclusively with github.com. It needs this access in order to determine structure of project file.
Q. Does JetBrains Toolbox App collect any usage statistics or call home?
A. The application itself does not track any data nor does it send any data. On the server-side however we do use a query string to detect whether a download request has originated from the application
