YouTrack screenshot applet allows you to take a screenshot, customize it, and add it to an issue right from YouTrack, without installing and using any specific utilities.
Screenshot applet is invoked whenever you use options Attach > Screenshot and Attach > Image from clipboard.

Note for Mac OS X 10.7 Lion users
If, after obtaining Mac OS X Lion, YouTrack Screenshot applet does not start, please check your Java preferences:
  1. Open Applications > Utilities > Java Preferences.
  2. In General settings select the 'Enable applet plug-in and Web Start applications' check box:
  3. Restart your browser.
    This simple procedure should solve the problem.

Using YouTrack Screenshot Applet

When the applet is started, it takes a screenshot of the desktop with all of the opened windows and then open it for edit. Within the editor, you can edit the screenshot (crop it, write or draw something, highlight an area, etc.), customize its visibility, and attach it to an issue using the following toolbar options:

Option Description
Crop Crop your image to the necessary size.
Brush Use this tool to draw something or spell a commentary to your image.
Highlight Highlight a part of a screenshot. Select a rectangular area to highlight on your screenshot.
Undo Undo the last action taken.
Redo Repeat the last taken action.
Retake Take a screenshot again.
Attach Save and attach the screenshot to an issue.
Visible for group Customize visibility of the screenshot: specify name of a user group to which this screenshot will be available.
