Creating a comment in the Issues list

To add a comment to an issue while viewing the Issues list:

  1. Click the comment icon to open the comment field.

    Alternately, if you view the Issues list in one-line mode, expand the needed issue and then click the comment icon.
  2. Type your comment. You can use the wiki mark-up within the comment. To check which markup tags are available, click the 'wiki markup' link above the comment input area. Comment's preview is shown below the input area, so you can check how your comment will look like.
  3. If needed, select a user group in the 'Visible to' drop-down list to restrict the comment's visibility.
  4. Sometimes you might need to add a screenshot or a file along with your comment. You can do it by clicking the Attach file link right below the comment input are. When the comment is added, the attachment will be shown within the comment's area.
  5. When ready, click the Add Comment button or use Ctrl+Enter keyboard shortcut.

Creating a comment for a bunch of issues

In some cases you might need to add the same comment for several issues simultaneously, especially when you are updating a bunch of issues at once.

To add a comment to a bunch of issues:

  1. In the Issues list, select needed issues.
  2. Just start typing a command or press Ctrl+Alt+J shortcut to open the Command window.
    Alternately, click the Comment... link in the toolbar. This also will open the Command window with the 'comment' command specified, after which you can specify other commands, if needed.
  3. In the text input area, type your comment.
  4. If needed, select a user group in the 'Visible to' drop-down list to restrict the comment's visibility.
  5. When ready, click the Apply button or use Ctrl+Enter keyboard shortcut.

As a result, all commands will be applied and the comment will be added to all selected issues.
Please note, that in this case all changes, which were made with commands along with adding a comment, will be shown within the comment. See Issue changes related to a comment section below.

Creating a comment in the full issue screen mode

Adding a comment in a full-issue screen mode is easy as it can be: just type your comment and click the button.

To add new comment for an issue:

  1. Open an issue, to which you want to add a comment.
  2. Open the Comments tab. Generally, it's a default tab in the full issue screen mode, but if you have switched to any other tab, you need to switch back to the 'Comments' tab.
  3. Type your comment in the text input area.
  4. If needed, select a user group in the 'Visible to' drop-down list to restrict the comment's visibility.
  5. Sometimes you might need to add a screenshot or a file along with your comment. You can do it by clicking the Attach file link right below the comment input are. When the comment is added, the attachment will be shown within the comment's area.
  6. When ready, click the Add Comment button or use Ctrl+Enter keyboard shortcut.

Issue changes related to a comment

Starting with YouTrack 3.1, all changes, which were made to an issue within 1 minute from an adding a comment, are considered related to the comment and are shown along with the comment in the Related Changes pane.
