Tags allow you to group issues the way you like, irrelevant of their attributes. For example, you can create a tag fix it today and associate it with issues from different projects, subsystems etc.
You can associate any issue with unlimited number of tags.

Associating a tag with an issues
To associate a tag with an issue or a set of issues:
- In the issues list select an issue or several issues you want to set tag for.
- To invoke the Command window, type tag.
- Specify a name for the tag that you want to associate selected issues with (YouTrack completion will help you with choosing from existing tags).
- Click Submit or press Ctrl+Enter.
Untagging issues
To remove a tag from an issue or a set of issues:
- In the issues list select an issue or several issues you want to remove a tag from.
- To invoke the Command window, type remove tag.
- Choose the name of a tag that you no longer want to associate with selected issues.
- Click Submit or press Ctrl+Enter.
Sharing Tags
By default, a tag is private, that is: other users do not see your personal tags in the list of accessible tags in the sidebar. However, YouTrack allows you to share a tag with a user group.
You can share a tag with a user group at two levels:
- visibility – a tag becomes visible for all members of selected group.
- editing – all members of a selected group can edit tag's parameters or delete the tag.
To share a tag:
- Open Edit tag dialog by clicking a pencil icon which appears when you hover cursor over a color label next to the tag's name.
- Select user group name in the Visible for group list to set a group the tag will be visible to.
- Select user group name in the Updatable by group list to set a group the tag will be available for editing.
Deleting a tag
To delete an existing tag:
- In the Tags pane, click the edit icon next to the tag's name.
- In the Edit tag dialog box, click Delete tag button.
- Press OK to confirm deleting the tag.
