What is Early Access Program (EAP)?

We at JetBrains believe that making tools for developers should greatly involve listening to developers. Our Early Access Programs let development community closely participate in discussions about product and influence development planning, from early stages onwards.
Early Access Program allows you to try pre-release versions of our software to evaluate features that will be added to the next release.

Be Warned
It is important to distinguish EAP from traditional pre-release software. Please note that the quality of EAP versions may at times be way below even usual beta standards.

There are several things that I would like to see improved about EAP program.

    • Auto-update mechanism, this should work just like the one on release but use the EAP specific url to test for EAP releases.
    • A simple link from the home pages to EAP page, currently you have to browse 4-5 pages until you find the EAP download page
    • Have consistent names for EAP builds "Product EAP", without build name in the folder name. Why? This breaks shortcuts to the executables and you may end-up having several versions installed and running the old one instead of the latest one.
    • Have someone take a look at

      • EAP builds do support auto-update as long as you update from a build to the next one without skipping any builds.
      • A link at will be provided later.
      • We don't plan to remove the build number from the folder name.

I found an important bug in 121.226 which is marked as fixed in 122. but this build is not visible on website nor in the update section.

        1. Sep 26, 2012

          Which bug do you mean?
The branch 122 is an internal development branch for the next version of PyCharm; we're not currently publishing any builds from that branch.

EAP license from build 130.1058 has expired and PyCharm doesn't start anymore. Please upload the new EAP build.

I see the release notes were updated minutes ago.  I am eagerly expecting a new set of binaries any minute :)

My PyCharm EAP PY-133.551, build PY-133.551 expired. Do you have an estimate on when we'll see a newer version?

    1. Jan 16, 2014

I must be nuts. I tried launching the 3.1 EAP again, and it launched just fine with no warning that it had expired. I must have launched version 3.0, tho I don't understand why I'd get an "expired" notice on the the released version 3.0.

      sorry for the noise.

      1. Jan 16, 2014

Hi Richard, good that it works fine now. Maybe you've launched a previous EAP version, namely 133.291?

        1. Jan 16, 2014

I searched my disk and FOUND the older PyCharm EAP. I could have sworn there wasn't another EAP version on my disk, but I was mistaken.

Sheesh. Maybe I need to change my brand of coffee.

Again, sorry for the noise. Love PyCharm!

I'm using the Python plugin in IDEA. Where do I find EAP versions of the plugin for download? Also, recently when I updated IDEA, the Python plugin no longer worked properly, and I had to update it separately. This should not happen. IDEA's update mechanism should offer updates to the Python plugin.  All of these comments apply to the upcoming C++ plugin.

    1. Apr 02, 2014

Hi Dave, the latest problems with plugin update have been caused by a bug. Normally newer plugin version for IDEA EAPs should be available with auto-update mechanism.

      1. Oct 17, 2014

So, for every IDEA EAP release in future, there will be a Python plugin that works with it. Is that what you mean? I hope so!
